10 Died and 33 Pilgrims Injured in Terrorist Attack in Katra

A suspected terrorist attack was witnessed in Katra on Sunday, June 9, which has dominated the media headlines. In the incident, a total of 33 people got severe injuries, while 10 other people lost their lives, reported The ET.

This incident occurred when some people, suspected to be terrorists, fired upon a bus carrying pilgrims. This took place on Sunday in the Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir. 

According to the police officials, following the attack, the bus rolled down a gorge. 

This incident took place in the evening around 6:10 pm. The bus was returning to Katra, from Shiv Khori temple in Reasi. 

Police helped in evacuating the passengers with the help of local villagers. By 8:10 pm, all the passengers were evacuated. The evacuation process was supervised by the Superintendent of Police (SP) Reasi. 

The injured people were transferred to the nearby hospitals immediately. 

Casualties Reported

Police confirmed 33 injuries and 10 deaths in various hospitals in Jammu, Treyath and Reasi. 

Mohita Sharma, the Senior Superintendent of Police stated that the driver of the bus lost his balance due to the firing. Thus, the bus fell into a gorge. 

The identities of the people are not confirmed yet. Moreover, the passengers were not indigenous people. 

At the site, a multidimensional operation including the CRPF and the Indian Army was launched so that attackers were held. 

Sources confirmed that the terrorists were believed to hide themselves in the upper reaches of Reasi, Poonch and Rajouri. 

SSP Sharma told the reporters, “Initial reports suggest that terrorists fired upon the passenger bus going from Shiv Khori to Katra. Due to the firing, the bus driver lost balance of the bus, and it fell into a gorge. 33 people were injured in the incident. The rescue operation has been completed.”

She added, “The identities of the passengers have not been confirmed yet, they are not locals. Shiv Khori shrine was secured, and area domination was done”.
