At least 17 Palestinians killed in Israeli airstrike in Gaza
Gaza, Feb 22 (IANS) – At least 17 Palestinians were killed and more than 34 others injured in an Israeli airstrike on a house in the Nuseirat refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip, local medical sources told the media. The casualties include women and children, and rescue efforts are still ongoing.
Eyewitnesses reported that an Israeli warplane fired several missiles at the house sheltering several displaced families, causing a massive blast that brought down the building and caused severe damage to neighbouring houses in the western part of the camp.
The recovered victims were all transferred to Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in the city of Deir el-Balah, according to the sources.
The Palestinian death toll from Israeli strikes in the Gaza Strip has risen to 29,313, with 69,333 others wounded, as the Israel-Hamas conflict continues, the Hamas-run Health Ministry said in a press statement on Wednesday.
The ongoing conflict has resulted in a significant number of casualties and continues to escalate tensions in the region. The international community has called for an immediate ceasefire to prevent further loss of life and suffering in Gaza and Israel.
The situation in Gaza remains dire as the violence shows no signs of abating, and humanitarian efforts are urgently needed to address the needs of the affected population. The international community must take decisive action to bring an end to the conflict and facilitate a lasting peace in the region.
