43 people perish in Dhaka restaurant fire

A tragic fire at a commercial building in Dhaka claimed the lives of 43 individuals. Health Minister Samanta Lal Sen confirmed the death toll, with 33 at Dhaka Medical College Hospital and 10 at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery. Over 22 remain in critical condition.

The fire broke out at Green Cozy Cottage Shopping Mall on Baily Road, housing various shops including Kacchi Bhai biriyani shop and Illiyeen retailer outlet. Rescuers saved 75 individuals, with 42 found unconscious. Live videos shared on social media captured the intense blaze and rescue efforts by locals and firefighters.

The incident occurred late on Thursday night, with the fire spreading rapidly through the six-story building. It took two hours for firefighters to bring the situation under control. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined as investigations are ongoing to understand the circumstances leading to this devastating event.
