What is this mind-body connection? It’s simple really – it’s the way in which our minds and our bodies interact with one another to keep us healthy, safe, and happy. More and more, Western medicine is recognizing the shortcomings in treating the symptoms without considering the whole person.

However, there are steps you can take, on your own, to strengthen this connection. With a healthy mind-body connection truly anything is possible.  Read on to learn more!

Mind-Body Connection and You

There are many ways to deepen your mind-body connection. In this article, we’ll go through five of them.

1. Learn to Listen

A big part of having a strong mind-body connection is learning to listen. The body is constantly telling us things, it’s just that most of us don’t know how to listen.

Practice this: dial in on your emotions. Emotions create sensations through the body, so check-in. Are you feeling frustrated? Try to notice where exactly you are feeling that. Is it in your neck or shoulders perhaps?
Practice this as often as you can remember, and you’ll start to be able to listen without thinking about it.

2. Beliefs May Be Stronger Than Biology

There’s a saying in wellness circles; whether you think you can or think you can’t, you’re right. That’s because of the effect of the mind on the body. What we believe about ourselves is often more influential to our daily lives than any genetic predispositions. Practice this, when you notice yourself thinking negative thoughts, try to shift them away to positive or at least neutral thoughts.

3. Get To Know Yourself

When you want to know how to connect the mind and body consider this, there have been many advances in science that indicate the brain listens to the ‘mind’ or consciousness.

Therefore, you can develop a mind-body connection and build on the above practices with this next one. Before you get out of bed in the morning do a mental scan of the body. See what you feel and where you feel it. Don’t judge it or try to change anything, just take a few moments to really
be with what is. The more you practice this, the more you can tame your mind. The more tame your mind, the more peaceful your life. But don’t take my word for it, try it and see!

4. Healthy Mind and Body

New studies show that the mind has a profound impact on our immune system. Stressed out people have stressed out immune systems. And stressed immune systems are an invitation for a whole host of problems.
Practice this: when you start to feel unwell draw on the previous practices and visualize where the sensation is in your body. Everything needed to heal yourself floods there with your awareness. Do this in addition to your regular wellness regiment and notice any difference!

5. Imagination Is The Key

The brain doesn’t know when you are dreaming, awake or imagining things. So use this to your advantage!

Practice this: in your minds eye visualize your self going through the motions of your day and excelling. Over time you will create positive neural connections that can help you to make
this imagination happen.
