6.0 Magnitude Earthquake Shakes Indonesia

A 6.0 magnitude earthquake struck Indonesia’s West Papua province without triggering a tsunami warning, according to the country’s meteorology, climatology, and geophysics agency. The earthquake, initially reported as 6.1 in magnitude, occurred at 07.02 a.m. Jakarta time with its epicenter located 46 km southeast of Ransiki town.

The agency stated that the quake had a depth of 11 km below the seabed and the intensity was felt at III to IV MMI in the Ransiki town. Despite the strong tremors, the agency did not issue a tsunami warning due to the low risk of giant waves being generated.

Indonesia, being an archipelagic country, is susceptible to earthquakes because of its placement along the Pacific Ring of Fire, a region known for volcanic activity and seismic events. The country remains vigilant in monitoring and responding to such natural disasters to ensure the safety of its citizens.
