Marvel’s slew of grittier TV shows has found a new home on Disney+. While creating the solo series The Punisher, the showrunner Steven Lightfoot reviewed many classic conspiracy thrillers from the 1970s, like Marathon Man to get some inspiration for creating the paranoia-infused world of The Punisher.
During the interview Lightfoot gave to Rotten Tomatoes he mentioned 1970s thrillers along with a few Western genres to create the character and the world of The Punisher. This is the reason why Frank Castle is the anti-hero archetype just like many other Western heroes or protagonists in 1970s from 1970s thrillers.
