7 arrested after fake cancer medicine manufacturing unit is busted in Delhi

New Delhi, March 12 (IANS) – An illegal unit manufacturing fake life-saving cancer chemotherapy medicines was busted by the Delhi Police, resulting in the arrest of seven individuals, including two hospital employees. The raids led to the recovery of counterfeit medicines worth Rs 4 crore from various locations in Delhi and Gurugram.

The accused, identified as Viphil Jain, Suraj Shat, Neeraj Chauhan, Parvez, Komal Tiwari, Abhinay Kohli, and Tushar Chauhan, were involved in the production and distribution of spurious cancer medicines. Special Commissioner of Police, Crime Branch, Shalini Singh, stated that simultaneous raids were conducted at multiple locations based on the information received.

The prime location for manufacturing the spurious medicines was identified as DLF Capital Greens in Moti Nagar, where Jain had taken two flats to produce the medicines. Suraj Shat managed the packaging of the vials. During the raid, various equipment and a large number of vials from different international and Indian brands were seized.

Neeraj Chauhan was found hoarding a cache of fake cancer injections at South City, Gurugram, while his cousin Tushar Chauhan was apprehended for his involvement in the supply chain. Parvez, in Yamuna Vihar, was caught supplying empty vials for refilling, and two individuals from a reputed hospital were also arrested for supplying empty vials.

According to the Special CP, Jain started his career as a medical store employee and gradually moved onto supplying medicines. About three years ago, he got into refilling spurious cancer injections with the help of his associates. Neeraj Chauhan, with his experience in hospital management, aided in providing counterfeit chemotherapy injections at affordable rates.

Overall, the arrests have highlighted a major concern in the healthcare sector, emphasizing the need for stricter regulations to prevent the production and distribution of fake medicines. The Delhi Police are continuing their investigation into the matter to ensure that all individuals involved are held accountable for their actions.
