Savitribai Phule Jayanti is celebrated every year on 3 January in India. Savitribai Phule, India’s first female teacher, poet, a social worker whose aim was to educate girls. Savitribai Phule was born on January 3, 1831, in Maharashtra. He was born in the small village of Sitara. Savitribai Phule’s father’s name was Khanduji and his mother’s name was Lakshmi. She was married at the age of 10. Savitribai Phule’s husband was in the third grade at the age of 13 at that time. After marriage, Savitribai Phule received an education with the help of her husband Jyotiba Phule. Her husband was a Dalit thinker and social reformer. There was a great desire to read Savitri Bai Phule, but it was opposed by her family and in-laws. However, her husband supported her. When Savitri Bai used to go to give food to Jyotirao, who was working in the field, he used to teach her. Despite the opposition of the family and society, he got Savitri Bai admitted in the school. He also received training in the Teachers Training Institute. Jyoti Rao and Savitribai Phule Phule decided to educate other girls as well. She established a girls’ school in Pune in 1848. Savitri Bai Phule became the principal as well as the teacher in this school. Thus she became the first female teacher of India.
