According to the official data of W.H.O., every day, more than 4100 people lose their lives due to T.B. worldwide. It is a contagious disease and can infect another healthy person through droplets coming out of the mouth and nose during coughing and sneezing of the patient.
Every year, World T.B. Day is observed on March 24 to make more-to-more people aware of it and ensure adequate funding to the institutions.
On March 24, 1882, German physician and microbiologist Robert Koch discovered the bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the bacterium of tuberculosis. His discovery later proved to be very helpful in the diagnosis and treatment of T.B. However, World T.B. Day was officially marked as an annual event after a decade by the World Health Assembly of WHO and the United Nations.
Therefore, 1998 is an important year in the history of World T.B. Day, as it was marked for the first time in the same year.
Every year on the day of World T.B. Day, many programs related to it are run worldwide under the auspices of the World Health Organization (WHO), whose purpose is to make people aware of this global disease and eliminate it. In addition, it aims to promote public awareness and understanding of its dangerous effects on people, whether health or socio-economic.
