The high drama encounter between India and Pakistan is going to happen on October 14th but Shubhman Gill who was hospitalized in Chennai after suffering from high fever will not be able to participate in the match.

Meanwhile, the Indian journey in the ICC World Cup 2023 started with a bang when they subdued the mighty Kangaroos. However, Shubhman Gill’s absence will severely affect the Indian batting lineup since Shubhman was in top form in the last few matches. The Indian batting strength is sure to be depleted in the absence of the ace batsman.

Shubhman Gill Health Update

Shubhman Gill is reportedly suffering from Dengue and was hospitalized in Chennai. The BCCI has already ruled him out from the match against Afghanistan which is the second fixture of the Indian team. Shubhman is also suffering from low platelet count which is one of the ramifications of Dengue. Shubhman has been hospitalized because of his low platelet counts.

Dengue is a viral disease and there is no cure but only supportive treatment. In extreme cases, it can lead to hemorrhage and is also fatal in some cases. Recovering from Dengue can take up to 15 days and fans of Shubhman are hoping that his recovery is uneventful and fast. The swashbuckling batsman is known for his big hits and fans will be sorely missing it.

BCCI is closely monitoring Shubhman’s recovery and the final decision of his playing in the match against Pakistan will be solely at the discretion of the medical team. It was reported that Gill’s platelet count plummeted to 70,000 prompting the authorities to hospitalize Gill.

He will be discharged as soon as his platelet count reaches normal level which is 100,000, a BCCI source told PTI. As already mentioned, falling platelet count is one of the outcomes of dengue disease. Gill is undergoing treatment at Chennai’s MultiCare specialty hospital ‘Kauvery’. The Indian team’s doctor Rizwan is staying with the batter to monitor his progress.

In a statement, the BCCI said that Gill will not be traveling with the Indian team to New Delhi where the next fixture of India, a match against Afghanistan will be played. He will stay back in Chennai and will be under the supervision of the medical team.

Subhuman has already missed the first fixture against Australia. He will also not play against Afghanistan and his participation in the match against Pakistan is still not clear. If he is fit he will be flown to Ahmedabad, the venue of the all-important match against Pakistan. We can only hope and pray for Gill’s speedy recovery.
