The highly anticipated launch for Mahindra in 2024 is the Thar 5-door SUV. Expected to be launched in mid-2024, the Thar 5-door will come with rear-wheel drive (RWD) and four-wheel drive (4WD) powertrains, shared with the XUV700, Scorpio N, and Thar 3-door.
Recently, a video of a camouflaged Thar 5-door struggling in the mud surfaced, indicating the presence of a RWD powertrain. Previous spy shots also hinted at the absence of a 4×4 lever in the centre console, further suggesting the RWD variant for higher models.
Equipped with a sunroof and alloy wheels, the Thar 5-door is likely to offer RWD on higher variants, catering to buyers who use their SUVs predominantly for city and highway driving. This move aligns with Mahindra’s strategy for the Thar 3-door model.
The Mahindra Thar 5-door will feature the same 2.2-litre diesel and 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engines as the 3-door variant, paired with manual and automatic gearbox options. Stay tuned for more updates on this highly awaited model.
