Tata’s Dholera plant on track to produce first chip by December 2026

The first chip from Tata’s Dholera plant is set to be produced in December 2026, according to Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. Speaking at the ground-breaking ceremony, he highlighted India’s goal to be among the top five chip ecosystems by 2029.

The semiconductor industry in India is poised for significant growth with the foundation of three major chip plants. Tata Electronics and CG Power will be setting up cutting-edge facilities to manufacture chips, showcasing a total investment of ₹1.26 lakh crore.

Tata’s Dholera plant will produce chips in the 28, 50, and 55 nanometer node, catering to various sectors such as electric vehicles, telecom, defense, automotive, consumer electronics, display, and power electronics. The expansion of the semiconductor industry will have far-reaching impacts on multiple aspects of everyday life.

Furthermore, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation for Tata Electronics’ assembly and test facility in Jagiroad, Assam, with an investment of ₹27,000 crore. This facility is expected to generate over 27,000 direct and indirect jobs in the region, marking India’s first semiconductor unit in the Northeast.
