Maruti Suzuki Reaches 3 Crore Production Milestone in 40 Years: From 1983 to 2024

Maruti Suzuki, the leading force in the Indian car market for four decades, has crossed a milestone of three crore cumulative production since starting in 1983. The achievement highlights its dominance and the speed at which it reached the milestone compared to other Suzuki bases globally.

The journey began with 10 lakh units by 1994, powered by the iconic M800 model. The company hit the one crore mark in 2005, followed by two crores in 2018. This year, Maruti Suzuki achieved the three crore milestone, showcasing its consistent growth and success in the Indian automotive industry.

Out of the total, over 2.68 crore vehicles were made in Haryana, with over 32 lakh in Gujarat. The M800 played a significant role, along with models like Alto, Swift, and Ertiga. Hisashi Takeuchi, MD and CEO, attributed the success to a dedicated workforce and partners, emphasizing the ‘Make in India’ commitment.

Takeuchi outlined future plans, including increasing production capacity to 4 million units by 2030-31. The company will establish new manufacturing plants in Haryana and Gujarat and expand its model range to 28. Maruti Suzuki currently sells 18 models and exports to nearly 100 countries worldwide, ending FY 2023-24 with record sales.

Maruti Suzuki’s continued success and growth in the Indian market reflect its commitment to innovation and excellence, setting a benchmark for the automotive industry. With a strong focus on ‘Make in India’ and expanding its product range, the company aims to solidify its position as a market leader in the years to come.
