AAP organizes protests and candle marches in response to party chief’s arrest

New Delhi, March 25 (IANS) The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) protested in Delhi against the arrest of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal by the Enforcement Directorate in the excise policy case. Delhi Minister Atishi led a candle march at Kalkaji, while AAP leaders held similar protests in other parts of the city.

During the protest, Atishi expressed concern over the unprecedented arrest of a national party convener during election time. She stated, “The bank account of a major national party is frozen… This is a direct assault on democracy in the country.”

Despite a two-year investigation into the excise policy scam, no corruption was found from AAP leaders. INDIA bloc candidate from East Delhi questioned the arrest of Kejriwal and the BJP’s acceptance of donations from a key witness in Delhi’s alleged liquor scam.

AAP MLA Sanjeev Jha criticized the BJP for restricting freedom of speech during the protests. He said, “The Constitution has given us the freedom to protest and speak… What are they afraid of? Something is fishy.” The protests reflect growing tensions between the AAP and the ruling party.
