Abhinav Bindra inspires national shooting squad for upcoming Paris Olympics home run

New Delhi, March 31 (IANS) India’s first-ever individual Olympic gold medallist Abhinav Bindra, shared his experiences with the national shooting squad at the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting range, as they gear up for the Paris 2024 Games. The session was organised by NRAI to motivate the team ahead of the final preparations.

The National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) arranged the session before the shooters leave for equipment testing in Europe. Following this, the team will participate in April’s national Olympic selection trials at the same venue. Four trials will be conducted for the selection of Rifle and Pistol Olympic squads.

Abhinav Bindra, in his address, emphasized on the importance of consistency for success, stating, “Doing the right things consistently day in and day out is what leads to success.” He also advised the shooters to be honest with themselves and strive to give their best every day in order to achieve desired results.

When questioned about maintaining self-discipline, Bindra highlighted the significance of self-reflection and being kind to oneself. He also mentioned the importance of having a balance in life and not solely focusing on one pursuit, as it helps in mental recovery and building a stronger base for competition.

Coach Manoj Kumar inquired about tackling Olympic expectations, to which Bindra suggested increasing self-awareness and staying focused on the process rather than the outcome. He emphasized on staying in the present moment and challenging oneself constantly to improve in competitions, rather than just in training.

The session was guided by High-Performance Director Dr. Pierre Beauchamp, and attended by Kr. Sultan Singh, Secretary-General, NRAI. With India securing a record 19 quota places in shooting for the Paris Olympic Games, the team is determined and focused on delivering stellar performances in the upcoming event.
