Adani Group successfully completes first phase of international terminal twinning at Thiruvananthapuram Airport

Thiruvananthapuram International Airport, managed by the Adani Group, has completed the first stage of twinning its international terminal (T-2), a first for a brownfield airport in India. A ‘digital twin’ was created using BIM with a Scan to BIM strategy, showcasing the innovative approach taken by the airport.

Using LIDAR and GPR devices, the T2 building, service utility building, and a 10-acre site were scanned to create the digital twin – known as the Airport Asset Information (AIM). The digital recreation includes existing buildings, utilities, and buried services from the legacy infrastructure, providing a comprehensive overview for future renovation and upgrading plans.

The AIM will be a crucial tool for designers to enhance the present infrastructure through advanced planning techniques. The detailed digital models allow for precise analysis, facility management, and sustainability efforts, showcasing a forward-thinking approach to airport development.

These high-fidelity models are equipped with rich data and can seamlessly integrate with all airport systems, leading to enhanced security measures, improved passenger experience, and increased operational efficiencies for airline operators. The successful completion of this digital twin project marks a significant milestone in the airport’s modernization efforts.
