Administrative Council approves Jammu and Kashmir Film Policy for 2024

The Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Council, chaired by L-G Manoj Sinha, approved the Jammu and Kashmir Film Policy-2024. The policy aims to position J&K as a hub of cinematic creativity and productivity, superseding the current Film Policy-2021. It includes time-bound administrative assistances, setting up of Single Window Cell, and financial assistance for film making.

Bodies like Film Development Council, J&K Film Division, Script Screening Committee, and Film Development Fund are outlined in the policy. A film must have a minimum of 20 days of shooting to be eligible for the subsidy, with the maximum subsidy in regional languages set at Rs 1.25 crore. A Film Development Fund of Rs 500 crore will be created for disbursement of subsidies/incentives, to be sourced from the CAPEX budget.

For domiciles of J&K, the minimum cost of production for subsidy eligibility is set at Rs 50 lakh. The policy outlines criteria for claiming subsidies, including minimum cost of production and screening requirements. The policy will be valid for five years, focusing on promoting the film industry in Jammu and Kashmir.
