Adverse weather advisory in J&K from Feb 29

Srinagar, Feb 28 (IANS) Sky was partly cloudy in J&K on Wednesday as the Meteorological (MeT) official forecast rain and snow from Thursday evening onwards. An active Western Disturbance is likely to affect J&K and adjoining areas from February 29th evening onwards, bringing widespread Moderate Rain/Snow till March 3rd.
According to Mukhtar Ahmad, Director of local MeT department, “Few places may experience heavy to very heavy snow particularly over higher reaches of North Kashmir, Central & South Kashmir & Pir Panjal range of Jammu Division. Thunder/Lightning/Hail Storm accompanied by gusty winds is expected during 1st & 2nd March.”
Travellers/tourists are advised to plan accordingly and follow admin/Traffic Police advisory. The general public in hilly areas should avoid venturing out in avalanche prone areas. Farmers are advised to withhold irrigation and other farm operations during the 1st week of March due to potential landslides/mudslides and shooting stones in some areas.
Minimum temperatures on Wednesday were 4.5 in Srinagar, minus 5.6 in Gulmarg, minus 2.4 in Pahalgam, minus 6.5 in Leh, and minus 9.8 in Kargil. Jammu city recorded 8.1, Katra 7.6, Batote 3.1, Bhaderwah 1.2, and Banihal 3.6 as the minimum temperature. Prepare for a spell of rain and snow as the weather takes a turn in Jammu and Kashmir.
