The two-day Neem Summit & Global Neem Trade Fair, which kicked off in New Delhi on Monday, sheds light on the potential of neem as a sustainable raw material for various industries. With a focus on promoting neem coated urea and neem-based health products, the summit aims to emphasize the importance of growing neem trees in the country. The event, organized in collaboration with ICAR-Central Agroforestry Research Institute, saw participation from 22 companies showcasing their neem-related products, with nearly 250 participants, including 10 from overseas, attending the seminar.
The theme of the seminar, “Neem for sustainable Agriculture, health and Environment,” highlighted the significance of Neem in human wellbeing. With 7 technical sessions addressing various neem research and development matters, the event also witnessed the release of the Souvenir, WNO Calendar, and Technical Bulletin titled “Neem Field Gene Bank – Provisioning Opportunities for Conservation and Utilization,” along with the launch of a WNO Documentary.
The Trade Fair was inaugurated by Secretary, DARE and DG, ICAR Dr. Himanshu Pathak, and WNO president B.N. Vyas welcomed the guests, while also recognizing outstanding contributions with awards presented during the event.
The summit reinforces the growing importance of neem in sustainable agriculture, health, and the environment, urging the need for a national-level mission to promote neem farming in the country. With the Modi government’s emphasis on neem coated urea and neem-based health products, the event serves as a platform to explore the potential for neem in meeting industry raw material requirements while contributing to human wellbeing.
