According to a mythological belief, Lord Krishna used to go to Govardhan to graze his cows. Meanwhile, a demon named Arishtasur attacked Lord Krishna in the form of a cow-calf, but Lord Krishna killed him. The Radha Kund area was earlier known as Aridha forest, the city of the demon Arishtasur. As Lord Krishna killed Arishtasur in the form of a cow, Radha warned Shri Krishna that he would incur the sin of killing the cow. Hearing this, Shri Krishna dug a pool with his flute and bathed in it. On this Radha Rani also dug a second pool with her bracelet next to it and bathed in it. The kund of Shri Krishna is called Shyam Kund, while the kund of Radha Rani is called Radha Kund.
