AI Startup Krutrim, Founded by Bhavish Aggarwal, Becomes India’s First Unicorn in 2024

Bhavish Aggarwal, the founder of Ola, is yet again in the news as his third start-up Krutrim, the Artificial Intelligence platform, has become the country’s first unicorn with a $50 million funding at a $1 billion valuation. Moreover, the group of investors investing in the new AI startup also includes Matrix Partners India. Matrix Partners is also one of the primary investors in Bhavish Aggarwal’s other startups: Ola Electric and Ola.

With this, Krutrim AI will become India’s first Unicorn in 2024. It is interesting to note that, in just a month post its launch, the newly became unicorn, Krutrim has touched a billion-dollar valuation. It was initially launched as a large language AI model.

The word “Krutrim” means “artificial” in Sanskrit. In a blog post, the company said that the AI Unicorn is in the process of developing data centers throughout the nation. Moreover, for development of AI in the country, aims at creating a supercomputer ecosystem.

Krutrim also plans to manufacture a beta version of its existing eponymous chatbot. The same will be made available to consumers next month. In the upcoming months, Krutrim has announced to launch of APIs to enterprises and developers.

In a statement, Aggarwal said, “We are thrilled to announce the successful closure of our first funding round, which not only validates the potential of Krutrim’s innovative AI solutions but also underscores the confidence investors have in our ability to drive meaningful change out of India for the world.”
