Aidilfitri is one of the the biggest festival of Muslims, which is celebrated on the great pomp after the end of Holy month of Ramadan. According to the Islamic calendar, Eid-ul-Fitr is celebrated on the first day of the 10th month of Islamic Lunar Calendar, Shawwal.

Ramadan was started on Saturday, 2 April. Therefore Aidilfitri will be celebrated on May 2, Monday or May 3, Tuesday. However, its exact date will be decided after the sighting of the moon of Chaand Raat. According to Islamic beliefs, Allah forgives all the sins of those who fast and offer prayers during Ramadan.

According to Islamic belief, the Holy Quran was came into existence at the end of the month of Ramadan. The celebration of Aidilfitri began in the holy city of Medina after the migration of Prophet Muhammad from Mecca. The Prophet Hazrat Muhammad is believed to have won the Jang-e-Badr. In the joy of this victory, everyone’s mouth was made sweet, that’s why this day is also celebrated as Meethi Idi or Eid-ul-Fitr.

Sweet dishes like vermicelli are prepared on this day and fed to the guests who come home. Eidi is distributed among friends and relatives. People hug each other and greet Selamat Hari Raya Puasa or Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
