Akali Dal lodges complaint against minorities panel chief for engaging in ‘political activities’

The Shiromani Akali Dal filed a complaint against National Commission for Minorities Chairman Iqbal Singh Lalpura for involving in BJP political activities while holding a constitutional post. SAD urged the Election Commission to take action against him for violating the National Commission of Minorities Act, 1992.
SAD spokesperson Arshdeep Singh Kler highlighted that Lalpura, appointed as Chairman on April 13, 2022, is supposed to work for minority interests without engaging in party politics. However, he has been actively participating in BJP activities, which goes against his role and responsibility as per the statute.
Kler pointed out instances where Lalpura was present at BJP functions, like when Congress MP Preneet Kaur joined the party. By openly aligning with the BJP, Lalpura has compromised the integrity of his position and failed to uphold the neutrality expected from the Chairman of the National Commission for Minorities.
