As per Drik Panchang, this year in 2024, Akshaya Tritiya falls on May 10, Friday. The shubh muhurat for puja starts at 5:33 AM and culminates at 12:13 PM on May 10.
The Story Behind Akshaya Tritiya
As per Hindu mythology, when Lord Krishna went to visit the Pandavas without informing them during their exile, the wife of Pandavas, Draupadi the begged Krishna and fell on his feet asking for forgiveness for not being able to prepare a grand feast to welcome him.
However, Lord Krishna picked a single strang of rice from the empty bowl and forgave her. Krishna then blessed the five Pandavas and Draupadi with “Akshaya Patra.” Akshaya Patra is a bowl “which can never run out of food and offerings.”
However, some Hindus also interpret the reason behind the celebration of Akshaya Tritiya as Lord Kuber receiving blessings from Lord Brahma and Lord Shiva to safeguard the heaven’s wealth.
Celebration
Akshaya Tritiya is celebrated by devotees by waking up early in the morning. They venerate Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Kuber on this day. People also donate to the poor on Akshaya Tritiya.
