Al-Sisi and Blinken Hold Talks in Cairo on Gaza Conflict
Cairo, March 22: Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi met with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken to discuss the escalating situation in Gaza. The talks focused on mediating a ceasefire and prisoner exchange to address the humanitarian crisis and famine in the besieged territory.
During the meeting, Al-Sisi emphasized the urgent need for a ceasefire in Gaza due to the humanitarian catastrophe and famine threatening civilian lives, particularly in the city of Rafah. He called for immediate action to facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid and pursue a political solution for an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Both parties agreed on the importance of ensuring humanitarian aid delivery to Gaza and opposed any form of Palestinian displacement. Blinken commended Egypt’s role in promoting peace and expressed Washington’s desire for continued coordination with Cairo to enhance regional stability and security.
Blinken’s visit to Cairo follows discussions in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, focusing on advancing a Gaza ceasefire, securing the release of captives, and bolstering international humanitarian efforts. The efforts aim to address the ongoing crisis in Gaza and work towards a sustainable solution for the region’s stability and security.
