Alcaraz defeats Monfils to advance to fourth round in Miami Tennis

Florida, March 26: World No. 2 Carlos Alacaraz of Spain defeated Gael Monfils to reach the fourth round of the Miami Open, moving closer to completing the ‘Sunshine Double’. Alacaraz will now face Lorenzo Musetti after extending his win streak to eight matches.

The Spaniard dominated the match from the start, breaking Monfils’ serve twice to win the first set. The players entertained the crowd with impressive rallies in the second set, with Alacaraz eventually securing the victory after 1 hour and 13 minutes.

In another match, Karen Khachanov overcame Francisco Cerundolo to advance to the Round of 16 for the fourth time, setting up a clash with Alexander Zverev. Meanwhile, Fabian Marozsan’s win over Alexei Popyrin will see him break into the Top 50 after the tournament.

Hubert Hurkacz, the 2021 Miami Open champion, also progressed to the Round of 16 by defeating Sebastian Korda in a thrilling match. He will face Grigor Dimitrov in the next round, who reached the Round of 16 for the third time in his career by defeating Yannick Hanfmann.
