‘All Eyes On Bangladeshi Hindus’ Trending On Social Media, Netizens Slam Bollywood For Selective Activism
Amidst reports of widespread violence against Hindu minorities in Bangladesh, the hashtag #AllEyesOnBangladeshHindus is trending on social media.
The ongoing violence in Bangladesh, which started with a student campaign against reservation quotas for the descendants of the freedom fighters in the Bangladeshi civil war, soon culminated in demands for the resignation of Bangladeshi PM Sheikh Hasina Wajid.
Sheikh Hasina was forced to relinquish power and flee to India.
However, violence against Hindus and the vandalizing of their property continues, as per a report by the Daily Star.
The violence has occurred in more than 27 districts of the country.
‘All Eyes On Bangladeshi Hindus’ Trending On Social Media
The hashtag #AllEyesOnBangladeshHindus seems to have been adapted from ‘All Eyes On Rafah,’ which was an AI-generated image amidst a mass grave to highlight Israel’s actions in Gaza.
The ‘All Eyes On Rafah’ became trending on social media, and several Indian personalities, including Bollywood actors and actresses, joined the trend.
However, what has angered the netizens is the silence this time on the plight of Hindus in Bangladesh, which is the next-door neighbour as compared to Gaza, which is thousands of kilometres away from the country.
Bollywood stars who posted ‘All eyes on Rafah’ are slammed for their silence.
A few months ago, several Bollywood personalities and influencers, including Anurag Kashyap, Alia Bhatt, Priyanka Chopra, and Triptii Dimri among others, shared a social media post that read ‘All eyes on Rafah’ to express their solidarity with the Palestinians after the Israeli strike on Rafah.
This time, the minorities in Bangladesh are facing the brunt of attacks by extremist Islamists, but only a small number of personalities have reacted to the situation.
Many netizens have expressed their outrage at this silence, and the hashtag ‘All Eyes On Bangladesh Hindus’ is now trending.
Netizens are dismayed by the selective activism of Bollywood personalities.
Netizens have also shared a video of a Hindu woman pleading for safety, highlighting the condition of minorities in the country.
The woman also revealed that her house had been vandalized and she was asked to leave the country and go to India.
One user wrote on X,
“Rafah was 4,000 kms away. Bangladesh is next door. Where are you today, Bollywood?”
Another user wrote,
“Why are Bollywood’s eyes closed now?”
Bollywood celebrities, including Kangana Ranaut, Sonam Kapoor, and Hansal Mehta, did react to the situation in Bangladesh.
Kangana Ranaut said that no one is safe in an Islamic country, not even Muslims.
Indian-American Congressman Shri Thanedar has expressed deep concern about the plight of the minorities in Bangladesh following the fall of the Sheikh Hasina Government.
He also called for an end to violence, which he described as a threat to democracy.
