The tragedy in Gaza is unprecedented, with each day leading to the unfolding of tragedy even more horrific than previous episodes.
The latest incident involved air strikes by Israel on tents full of displaced people in Gaza’s Rafah, which killed more than 45 Palestinians, including children and women.
The incident has drawn widespread criticism around the world and included some of the staunchest allies of Israel.
“All Eyes On Rafah”: What the Image Shows
Social media has been flooded with images of charred bodies and those with severe injuries. However, there has been a trend on social media, an image with the text, “All Eyes on Rafah.”
The campaign is supported by activists and humanitarian groups who are using the campaign to draw the attention of the world toward the Palestinian civilians who are forced to live in cramped refugee camps with no humanitarian aid.
Rafah is currently home to hundreds of Palestinians who have fled the Israeli invasion of the Gaza Strip. Rafah was designated as a safe zone for civilians by Israel.
However, Israel is planning an invasion of Rafah and has also closed the crossings with Egypt, which has stopped supplies to the beleaguered population and has led to a famine-like situation.
On Sunday, Israel started a ground offensive in Rafah and bombed Palestinian civilians living in tents, killing more than 45 civilians.
The “All Eyes On Rafah” images could be AI-generated, but the phrase came from a statement by Rick Peeperkorn, director of the World Health Organization’s Office of the Occupied Palestinian Territories.
Rick Peeperkorn had made the statement in February after the Israeli Prime Minister announced a plan to evacuate civilians from Rafah before starting an invasion of the city.
The Israeli Prime Minister had claimed that Rafah is the last remaining stronghold of the militant group Hamas.
The “All Eyes On Rafah” has become the rallying point for many support groups such as the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, Save the Children, Jewish Voice for Peace, Oxfam, and Americans for Justice in Palestine Action.
The hashtag #AllEyesOnRafah has garnered over 195,000 posts with millions of views. It was also trending on Instagram and has garnered 100,000 additional posts on the platform.
The campaign has also garnered widespread support globally from many celebrities, which also included prominent Bollywood celebrities like Varun Dhawan, Madhuri Dixit, Aly Goni, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, and Tripti Dimri who have shared the slogan on their social media handles.
Actresses Saoirse-Monica Jackson and Susan Sarandon, Australian cricket player Travis Head, model Bella Hadid, and British singer Leigh-Anne Pinnock have also voiced their solidarity with Rafah.
