Allocation of Land in Dharavi is a Significant Milestone in Slum Rehabilitation: Devendra Fadnavis

New Delhi, March 15 (IANS) Senior BJP leader and Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, discussed the government’s approach to resettling Dharavi residents, ensuring housing and sustainable livelihood opportunities. In an interview with NDTV, Fadnavis emphasized the need to address issues of housing, economy integration, and land acquisition within Dharavi for resettlement.

Fadnavis highlighted the importance of transforming Dharavi from a slum into an economic hub, not just relocating individuals. He stressed the inclusion of residents in the formal economy to promote positive contributions and provide essential support. Plans for facilities, tax exemptions, and fair eligibility criteria were discussed to incentivize formal employment and resettlement post-2011 in line with Supreme Court directives.

The Deputy Chief Minister expressed confidence in the project serving as a global poverty alleviation model, showcasing the government’s dedication to empowering marginalized communities. The proactive land acquisition approach, influenced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, aims to build trust among Dharavi residents and create a vibrant economic environment.
