Alvida Mahe Ramzan– Ramadan is one of the most prestigious festivals in the Muslim religion. Ramadan derives from the Arabic word ‘ar-ramad,’ i.e ‘scorching heat.’.As per Islamic scripture, the time of Ramadan is quite auspicious for every Muslim. It was the time when Allah revealed the Holy Quran to Prophet Muhammad. The infamous night is called ‘Laylat ul-Qadr,’ in Islam and in English means Night of Power. During Ramadan, every muslin reads the Holy Quran and Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad while fasting. During the fasting time, devotees abstain themselves from eating or drinking from sunrise till sunset. They also don’t engage in any kind of sexual activity or utter any bad words or curses. Alvida Mahe Ramzan is the last day of the Ramadan month. This year in 2024 the Alvida Mahe Ramzan will be observed on the 10 of April.
The main aim of fasting is to achieve taqwa i.e the quality of righteousness. During this time, those who keep roza need to abstain from eating, drinking throughout the day, and saying any sinful or bad words. By following this, you will achieve spiritual strength and re-energise your mind, soul and body. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) states, “It may be that a faster gets nothing but thirst and hunger from his fast. And it may be that one who prays the night long gets from it only sleeplessness.” (Ahmad no. 8693)
Many things fasting during Ramadan and keeping one thirsty and hungry is wrong. In reality, it is done to bring inner peace. Uthman ibn Abi al-As told that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) stated-, “Fasting is a shield from the Hellfire just like the shield of any of you in battle.”
