Ekadashi tithi of Shukla Paksha of the Hindu month Phalgun is celebrated as Amalaki Ekadashi every year. The annual festival, marked especially in northern Indian states and region, is being celebrated on 03 March 2023. As per Drik Panchang, Ekadashi Tithi will start at 6:39 am on March 2 and will end at 9:11 am on March 3.
On this day, there is a tradition of worshiping Lord Vishnu, Goddess Lakshmi, and the Amla tree, considered holy in the religion. It’s considered auspicious to wake up, bathe early in the morning and perform the aarti of the Lord on this day.
Amalaki Ekadashi Story
According to a legend, Lord Brahma, the creator of the universe in emerged from the navel of Lord Vishnu. After that, there was a desire in Brahma’s mind to know who he is, what’s the purpose of his life? how is he born? So to know the answers to all his questions, he did a severe penance of Lord Vishnu.
After doing penance for thousand of years, Lord Vishnu get pleased, and he appeared in front off Brahma. Seeing Lord Vishnu, Brahma got emotional, and tears came out of both his eyes, and Amla tree originated from those tears.
Seeing this, Lord Shri Hari said to him that, because the Amla tree was born from his tears, therefore this tree and its fruit will be very dear to him. This is a divine tree, all the gods will reside in it. Shri Hari Vishnu said that from today onwards whoever keeps fast on Phalguna Shukla Ekadashi sitting under the Amla tree, will attain heaven.
A person will be free from the cycle of birth and death if he observes this fast, and al his sins and sorrows will be vanished.
