Date of Birth and Other Details

Amitabh Bachchan was born on October 11, 1942, in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh, India, the son of Harivansh Rai Bachchan and Teji Bachchan. He also has a brother named Ajitabh.

Fact: Amitabh is not his birth name

His father, Harivansh Rai Bachchan, was a prolific Hindi writer and poet. Amitabh’s real name was Inquilab Srivastava. His father, who initially named him ‘Inquilab’, named him ‘Amitabh’ on the advice of his friend. ‘Amitabh’ means ‘constant light’. His father’s works under the name ‘Bachchan’ became so successful that it became the family name of all his family members. Amitabh’s father died in 2007 and his mother in 2003.

Early life and Education

Amitabh Bachchan completed his schooling at Sherwood College in Nainital. After successfully completing his schooling, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Ghori Mall College under the University of Delhi. After his college career, he got a job at a shipping company called Shaw Wallace in Kolkata and moved there. After that, he worked as a cargo broker for another shipping company.
