Amitabh Kant forecasts creation of 25 million jobs in travel and tourism sector in the future

India’s G20 Sherpa and former NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant has forecasted that the country’s travel and tourism sector will create an additional 25 million jobs in the near future. He emphasized the importance of sustainable tourism practices during the Travel for Life: Tourism Sustainability Summit 2024 held by the FHRAI in New Delhi on Friday.

Kant highlighted the role of tourism in India’s sustainable growth, stating that it not only drives economic prosperity but also provides an opportunity for the country to lead in decarbonisation. He stressed the need to address greenhouse gas emissions despite India’s low per capita consumption, urging proactive measures to build a greener and more resilient future.

In alignment with the Ministry of Tourism’s focus on environmental protection and climate action, the FHRAI signed two significant MoUs at the Summit. One agreement with the Indian Plumbing Association aims to promote water conservation and sustainable plumbing practices in hotels and restaurants. Another partnership with the Indian Green Building Council seeks to enhance sustainable development in the built environment, with the goal of making India a global leader in sustainable building practices by 2025.
