'An emotion for a generation': Celebrities touched by Pankaj Udhas share memories
Mumbai, Feb 26 (IANS) – Actress Sameera Reddy shared her heartfelt tribute to the late ghazal legend Pankaj Udhas, remembering how his song ‘Aur Ahista Kijiye Baatein’ changed her life and launched her career. Reddy expressed her sadness at the loss of the iconic singer to cancer at the age of 72.
Reddy made her screen debut in 1997 in the music video for the classic song, where she played the role of an Indian woman in love with an Australian man. The actress credited Udhas’ melodious voice for her career success, saying, “He will never be forgotten, He has been an emotion for our generation.”
Taking to Instagram, Reddy shared the music video of the song, writing, “Thank you Pankaj Udhas Sir for your beautiful songs that have been an emotion for our generation. We will miss you. Rest in peace.”
Veteran film exhibitor Manoj Desai also paid tribute to Udhas, expressing disbelief at the loss of his friend of 33 years. Desai remembered Udhas for his ‘Khazana’ music special for cancer patients and the respect he commanded in the ghazal world.
Comedian Sunil Pal remembered Udhas as a sport who took parodies of his ghazals in his stride. Pal expressed his gratitude for having worked with Udhas and shared that the world of ghazals will never be the same without him.
