Indian Armed Forces Flag Day is celebrated every year on 7 December. This is the day to pay homage to the soldiers, martyrs, and ex-servicemen in the Indian Armed Forces. Indian Armed Forces Flag Day was initiated in 1949 after independence. After the independence of India on 15 August 1947, the need for a scheme for the welfare of the personnel of the Indian Armed Forces was felt. After this, the Government of India constituted a committee for the welfare of the personnel of the Indian Armed Forces on 28 August 1949. This committee recommended that 7 December be celebrated as Indian Armed Forces Flag Day, so that countrymen can be united in honor of the brave soldiers of the Indian Armed Forces.
On December 7, 1971, the Indian Navy attacked the Karachi port during the Indo-Pakistani War, and this day is also the anniversary of that historic event. Since then, Indian Armed Forces Flag Day is celebrated every year on December 7.

To help the families of armed forces personnel whose husband or father has been martyred while protecting the country on the border. To raise funds for the education and health care of the children of martyrs and injured soldiers. To raise funds for the treatment and rehabilitation of soldiers injured in war. To support housing, jobs and other welfare schemes for ex-servicemen.
On this day, little flags, stickers, and emblems are sold throughout the country. Through these flags, citizens pay their gratitude to the Indian Armed Forces personnel and contribute to collecting funds. Cultural programs are held in many schools and government offices which depict the sacrifices and bravery of the soldiers.
