Army says J&K infiltration bid in Uri aimed at disrupting peace & election process

In a recent operation led by the Indian Army, an attempted infiltration across the LoC in Uri sector was thwarted on April 5, 2024. The Defence Ministry stated that the aim was to disrupt peace and the ongoing election process in Kashmir.

According to the Defence Ministry statement, the operation was conducted based on inputs from multiple intelligence agencies about terrorist groups planning to infiltrate the Uri Sector. The surveillance and counter-infiltration grid was reinforced in response to these warnings.

During the operation, own forces intercepted a group of terrorists moving towards the LoC, leading to a fierce exchange of fire. Two terrorists were neutralized, and weapons including two AK Rifles, hand grenades, and ammunition were recovered.

The infiltration attempt by terrorists is seen as a sign of Pakistan’s desperation to stoke unrest in Kashmir, especially during the ongoing general elections. The operation highlights the collaboration between various security and intelligence agencies working towards maintaining peace in the region.
