Army tops Khelo India Winter Games 2024, Karnataka finish a close second

Gulmarg (J&K), Feb 25 (IANS) – Alpine skier Bobby Pandey’s gold at the Kangdoori slopes led Army to the top of the medal tally at the Khelo India Winter Games 2024 on Sunday. Army secured 10 gold medals, with Karnataka and Maharashtra following closely behind.

In addition to Pandey’s victory, Mehak of Uttarakhand claimed the women’s parallel slalom gold, contributing to Uttarakhand’s three gold medals. Himachal Pradesh, led by Aanchal Thakur’s double gold, finished fourth with four gold medals.

Army’s strong performance included nine gold medals from the Gulmarg edition, with snowboarder Kulvinder Sharma and Nordic skier Padma Namgial clinching two gold medals each. Karnataka showcased their skiing prowess through Thekkada Bhavani Nanjunda, who secured a hat trick of gold medals.

The technical management of the Winter Games was overseen by the Sports Authority of India, with six Olympians like Shiva Keshavan and Arif Mohammed Khan actively involved in the event’s organization.
