Small fire erupts in Home Ministry office at North Block

Minor fire breaks out in Home Ministry office in North Block

A fire broke out in the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) office in the North Block on Tuesday morning but was quickly brought under control by the fire department. The blaze reportedly started on the second floor at IC Division.

According to the Delhi Fire Service (DFS), the fire was reported at 9.22 a.m. and seven fire tenders were deployed to the scene. By 9.35 a.m., the flames were extinguished, averting a major disaster in the government building.

The fire reportedly originated in a Xerox machine, computers, and some documents within the office. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident. The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the authorities.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of fire safety measures in all workplaces, especially in government offices where sensitive documents and equipment are stored. It also highlights the swift response and efficiency of the fire department in handling such emergencies.

In a recent operation by Delhi Police, a 37-year-old woman named Lovely Singh was arrested for selling stolen luxury SUVs in Jharkhand and Bihar. She was apprehended from Patliputra in Bihar, leading to the recovery of nine SUVs, including Toyota Fortuner and Hyundai Alcazar.

The arrest of Lovely came after her husband, Govind, was apprehended last year with a stolen Maruti Brezza. Govind disclosed that Lovely was involved in receiving stolen vehicles from Delhi and selling them in Bihar and Jharkhand. After efforts to trace her, she was declared a proclaimed offender by the Court.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Apoorva Gupta stated that Lovely was arrested on April 3 this year and revealed during interrogation that she had a background in working in an insurance company before getting involved in the sale and purchase of stolen vehicles. She and her husband started engaging in this illegal activity after coming into contact with individuals in the industry.

Lovely disclosed that she had been arrested in Ranchi in 2021 for a case involving stolen vehicles and robbery. To evade arrest, she would frequently change her accommodations and establish connections with auto lifters and other receivers of stolen luxury cars to continue her illicit activities. She aimed to earn easy money to meet her daily needs.
