Hinduja Group’s Ashok Leyland Flag Off Construction of Electric Bus Plant in UP

Lucknow, Feb 20 (IANS) Hinduja Group auto major Ashok Leyland has initiated the construction of a new integrated commercial vehicle plant for manufacturing electric buses in Uttar Pradesh. The plant, located at Kanpur Road in Lucknow, was inaugurated by UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

The new plant will focus primarily on the production of electric buses, with the capacity to produce 2500 vehicles per year initially. The company plans to expand this capacity to 5000 vehicles annually over the next decade, in anticipation of the growing demand for electric and alternative fuel-powered vehicles.

“The greenfield manufacturing facility will be spread over 70 acres. Packed with the latest in manufacturing technology, this will be Ashok Leyland’s most modern and green factory worldwide, delivering world-class quality standards,” the company said in a statement.

Senior members of the Hinduja family, along with Uttar Pradesh Finance Minister Suresh Khanna and Minister for Industrial Development Nand Gopal Gupta, were present at the foundation stone-laying ceremony.

Dheeraj Hinduja, Executive Chairman of Ashok Leyland, expressed his commitment to generating employment opportunities and advancing sustainable mobility in India. Shenu Agarwal, MD & CEO, highlighted the role of the new facility in addressing the rising demand for electric vehicles and contributing to the holistic development of the region.

This new plant in Uttar Pradesh will be Ashok Leyland’s seventh vehicle plant in the country, reflecting the company’s dedication to driving innovation and setting new benchmarks in the field of green mobility.
