Australian Women Ms Patterson Suspected with Murder of Three and Attempt to Murder of Two by Serving Poisonous Mushroom at A Meal

A horrific incident has surfaced on the internet in which an Australian woman named Ms Patterson is suspected of killing her former in-laws and others by poisoning them with deadly mushrooms. She served them for lunch. Thus, as a result, she is currently charged with attempted murder and multiple counts of murder.

After Erin Patterson, 49, a total of three individuals passed away. They were served a dish that included mushrooms, and beef in Wellington in July.

As per the cops, three charges are murder related to the lunch, and three of five cases are associated with individual incidents between 2021-2022. However, Ms Patterson claims that she is innocent. She stated that she did not kill the guests coming to her family intentionally. She served the guests at her home in Victoria town of Leongatha on July 29, 2023.

Toxicology Reports

As per the Toxicology reports, the deceased people consumed death cap mushrooms. Ms Patterson’s ex-husband Simon Patterson was also invited to the lunch but he couldn’t make it. One of the three guests fell brutally ill but later survived.

After the lunch, Ms Patterson along with her two children were unharmed after the meal, hence she was named as a suspect. On Thursday, she was taken into custody. Her house was searched thoroughly in Leongatha, which is around 125km (78 miles) south-east of Melbourne.

Dean Thomas, the Homicide squad Inspector amplified the complexity of the case describing it as an incident that may “reverberate for years to come”. He said, “I cannot think of another investigation that has generated this level of media and public interest, not only here in Victoria, but also nationally and internationally.”

Ms Patterson’s ex-partner’s parents, Gail and Don Patterson were the guests at the lunch. Heather Wilkinson, Gail Patterson’s sister and Ian Wilkinson, her brother-in-law also joined the lunch. All of them were transferred to health care after a violent illness was reported on 30 July. After some days, Ms Patterson’s former in-laws passed away. Mr Wilkinson recovered after two months of getting admitted. Erin Patterson was also admitted to the hospital, given medication for liver damage, and put on a saline drip.

What the Suspect Has To Say?

Ms Patterson claimed that she served the dish, beef Wellington using a combination of dried mushrooms purchased at an Asian grocery and button mushrooms bought from a supermarket. In a statement, she wrote, “I am now devastated to think that these mushrooms may have contributed to the illness suffered by my loved ones, I want to repeat that I had no reason to hurt these people, whom I loved.”

Ms Patterson’s children ate the leftover beef Wellington, the next day as they were absent at the lunch. However, they do not like mushrooms, the fungi that’s why they scraped off the mushrooms from the dish.
