Ayushman Bharat Diwas is being observed today (April 30, 2022) in India. The day is marked annually to boost affordable medical facilities in remote areas of the country based on the socio-economic caste census database. Ayushman Bharat Yojana is also known as Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY).

Ayushman Bharat Diwas: History & Significance

On August 15, 2018, on the occasion of 72nd Indian Independence Day, PM Modi announced the Ayushman Bharat Yojana from the Red Fort, Delhi. The goal of this scheme is to provide free healthcare facilities to 50 crore people and 10 crore households in India. Of the 10 crore households, 8 crore households are comprised in rural areas and 2.33 crore families in urban areas.

According to https://mera.pmjay.gov.in/, Under the Ayushman Bharat (PMJAY) health assurance scheme, free treatment up to ₹ 5 lakh per family per year is available.

The Ayushman Bharat scheme has more than 1,300 packages covering treatments, including cancer surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, cardiac surgery, neurosurgery, spine surgery, dental surgery, eye surgery, and MRI & CT Special tests. The scheme is completely paperless, cashless, and IT-based. Aadhar Card is not mandatory for the beneficiaries to avail of the services under this scheme.
