Babar pips Gayle to become fastest batter to score 10,000 T20 runs

New Delhi, Feb 21 (IANS) Former Pakistan captain Babar Azam has made history by becoming the fastest batter to score 10,000 runs in T20 format, surpassing ex-West Indies star Chris Gayle. Babar achieved the milestone in 271 innings, while Gayle took 285 innings to achieve the feat. India’s Virat Kohli, who took 299 innings to reach this milestone, is on third on the list.

The achievement came during a Pakistan Super League (PSL) match where Babar plays for Peshawar Zalmi. He needed only six runs to create a world record, and he successfully did it in the match against Karachi Kings. Babar, who is also leading the PSL side, had missed out on a career milestone in the last game after getting out on 68 against Quetta Gladiators.

Overall, the ex-Pakistan skipper became the 13th player to score 10,000 runs in the shortest format, with Gayle on top of the list with 14,562 runs while Pakistan’s Shoaib Malik with 13,159 runs is third on the list. Babar Azam’s remarkable achievement has solidified his position as one of the greatest batters in T20 cricket.

This incredible feat by Babar Azam has not only made him a world record holder, but it has also highlighted his exceptional skills and consistency in the T20 format. His performance in the ongoing PSL matches has been outstanding, and he continues to be a key player for Peshawar Zalmi.

Babar Azam’s achievement serves as a testament to his dedication and talent in the game of cricket. It is indeed a proud moment for Pakistan cricket and a significant milestone in Babar’s illustrious career. As he continues to shine on the field, his fans and the cricketing world eagerly await more remarkable performances from the prolific batter.
