Badminton association to conduct first Coaches Development Program in March for grassroots coaches

The Badminton Association of India (BAI), in partnership with REC Limited and Sports Authority of India, will conduct a Coaches Development Program for aspiring coaches in March 2024. The program aims to enhance the skills and knowledge of over 100 grassroots level coaches at four venues across the country.

The 11-day program will focus on grassroots badminton coaching essentials and will be held at the National Centre of Excellence, Guwahati, Raipur, Prakash Padukone Academy, Bengaluru, and Pullela Gopichand Badminton Academy, Hyderabad from March 8-18. BAI has emphasized the importance of empowering beginner-level former players and coaches who understand the game but lack the experience of being a professional coach.

Sanjay Mishra, BAI secretary, highlighted the role of grassroots level coaches in identifying and nurturing talent across the country. According to Mishra, the Coaches Development Program is aimed at empowering coaches who have an interest in coaching and have represented their state at the national or zonal level within the age limit of 25-45 years.

Participants who clear the assessment with an ‘A’ grade will be eligible to appear for the BAI Level 1 certification exam for coaching on the final day of the program. The initiative aims to bring uniformity in grassroots coaching and develop a strong assembly line of potential badminton stars in the country.

This Coaches Development Program is a significant step towards elevating the standards of badminton coaching at the grassroots level, ultimately contributing to the growth and success of Indian badminton on the global stage.
