BAFTA Awards: Best film for 'Oppenheimer'; top honours for Cillian Murphy, Emma Stone

London played host to a star-studded evening as the Christopher Nolan epic ‘Oppenheimer’ dominated the awards, securing a total of seven wins, including best director, best actor, and best supporting actor. Following closely behind was ‘Poor Things’ with five wins, and Emma Stone taking home the Best Actress award. Michael J. Fox received a standing ovation when he presented the best picture award, and the glitterati audience was entertained by host David Tennant as he closed the night with a lighthearted joke.

The evening saw Cillian Murphy open his acceptance speech with an enthusiastic “Oh boy! Holy moly,” expressing gratitude to Nolan and producer Emma Thomas for their belief in him. Emma Stone, in her acceptance speech, thanked the dialect coach and humorously mentioned the difficulty of saying “water” with a straight face. Despite a lighthearted closing from Tennant, not everyone left the evening with an award, as ‘Barbie’ left empty-handed.

The awards ceremony was a night of celebration and recognition for the outstanding performances and contributions to the film industry, with ‘Oppenheimer’ and ‘Poor Things’ leading the way in their respective categories. The evening culminated in laughter and applause, as the audience enjoyed the light-hearted moments and heartfelt speeches from the night’s winners.
