BAFTA Awards: Robert Downey Jr. thanks ‘that dude’ Christopher Nolan
Hollywood Star Robert Downey Jr Wins Best Supporting Actor at BAFTAs
Los Angeles, February 19 (IANS) – Hollywood star Robert Downey Jr won the BAFTA Award for best supporting actor for his performance in “Oppenheimer” and took a walk down memory lane, giving a shout out to “that dude” Christopher Nolan.
The actor was contending against names such as Robert De Niro for “Killers of the Flower Moon,” Jacob Elordi for “Saltburn,” Ryan Gosling for “Barbie,” Paul Mescal for “All of Us Strangers,” and Dominic Sessa for “The Holdovers.”
Downey Jr. reminisced about his career, mentioning iconic figures such as Peter O’Toole, Richard Attenbourgh, and Anthony Hopkins. He also shared that it was Guy Ritchie who taught him how to make big Hollywood movies with a civil British flare, and that playing Tony in the MCU for 12 years had been a significant part of his career.
He then gave credit to Christopher Nolan for suggesting an understated approach in his latest role, acknowledging that it has been an exceptional year for him and the fellow nominees.
In Nolan’s epic biopic of J. Robert Oppenheimer, Downey Jr. portrayed Lewis Strauss, a high-ranking member of the US Atomic Energy Commission who became hostile to Oppenheimer and sought to prove he was disloyal to the US.
This win added another prestigious award to Downey Jr.’s career, showcasing his versatility and talent as an actor. Congratulations to the Hollywood star on this well-deserved achievement.
