BCCI considering hike in Test match fees; report

The BCCI is considering increasing Test match fees to encourage players to prioritize red-ball cricket over the Indian Premier League (IPL). The move comes after concerns were raised about Ishan Kishan’s absence from domestic cricket, opting to practice for the IPL instead. The board is discussing a bonus for players who participate in all Test series in a season.

According to a report in The Indian Express, BCCI is exploring the possibility of rewarding players who commit to playing Test cricket throughout the year. A source mentioned, “This is to ensure that players turn out for more red-ball cricket. This would be an additional perk for playing Test cricket.” The new payment structure is expected to be implemented after the current IPL season.

Earlier, BCCI secretary Jay Shah issued a warning to centrally-contracted and India ‘A’ cricketers about the repercussions of skipping domestic cricket for the IPL. Reports suggest that Ishan Kishan, holding a Grade C contract, may face exclusion from the central contract due to his absence from the Ranji Trophy. The board is taking steps to address the growing trend of players favoring the IPL over traditional cricket formats.
