Is Begonia ‘Moonlight Butterfly’ Flower Is Real or Fake? Read On To Know Everything About The Plant

The internet is abuzz with pictures of the Begonia ‘Moonlight Butterfly’ flower, and netizens have been enamoured by the beautiful flower with its enchanting dark leaves and intricate white veins.

Despite the flower captivating audiences with its beauty, the fact is that the plant is not real and is fictitious.

The picture was first uploaded by Facebook user “Farm Show” and it soon went viral on social media.

Does The Begonia ‘Moonlight Butterfly’ Flower Exist?

In his post, the Facebook user Farm Show elaborated on how to take care of the Begonia ‘Moonlight Butterfly’ plant and revealed that it is essential to keep the plant in bright light but also cautioned that it must not be placed in direct sunlight.

He also elaborated that the soil must be kept moist but it must not be waterlogged.

His post read,

“Humidity: Prefers moderate to high humidity. Misting the leaves regularly or using a humidifier can help to maintain humidity. Fertilizer: Apply a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half the strength once a month during the growing season.”

The Begonia ‘Moonlight Butterfly’ can be used for decoration according to the Facebook user.

“The striking begonias are perfect for adding a touch of drama and elegance to your indoor garden. They can be displayed on their own or combined with other plants for a colourful and vibrant arrangement.”

The social media post has raked in over 82,000 reactions and has been shared 6,000 times and is still counting.

While several netizens believed that the plant existed, the reality is that the plant does not exist in nature and the image was created using AI.

Several users also aired the opinion that, though the image is beautiful, it is AI-generated.

The social media user also shared information about other Begonia species like “Begonia Sunburst” and “Begonia Rex Blushing Aurora” and more.

According to a user named Best Lagos, the captivating picture which has caught the imagination of netizens is not real and has been created using AI.

The user further stated that the image was created by altering pictures of the Begonia darthvaderiana x chlorosticta hybrid plant.

The plant has a black or brown surface interspersed with green and yellow spots on top of them. The leaves of the plant measure 15 cm and it can grow to a height of 40 cm.

The Begonia darthvaderiana x chlorosticta hybrid plant grows best in a high-humidity environment and should be moderately watered without waterlogging.

It must also not be placed in direct sunlight. It seems the Facebook user talking about the Begonia ‘Moonlight Butterfly’ plant simply altered the picture and posted it.

However, Best Lagos has said that the other plants which the Facebook user talked about like the “Begonia Sunburst” and “Begonia Rex Blushing Aurora” and more do exist.
