Bengaluru hosts national summit on cervical cancer

The National Summit on Cervical Cancer in Bengaluru concluded with a call for a ‘Cervical Cancer Mukt Bharat’ (Free India of Cervical Cancer). Minister of Health and Family Welfare Dinesh Gundu Rao highlighted the Karnataka government’s efforts towards affordable and accessible healthcare for women.

The summit, organized by ECHO India, Karnataka Obstetrics and Gynaecology Society, ARTIST for HER, and the Healthcare Sector Skill Council, brought together experts to discuss critical issues in the fight against cervical cancer. Dr. Hema Divakar stressed the importance of awareness, education, early detection, and intervention in combating the disease.

Dr. Divakar mentioned WHO’s 90-70-90 Cervical Cancer Elimination Strategy, which focuses on vaccination, screening, and treatment to eliminate the disease by 2030. The summit ended with a commitment from all stakeholders to work together towards a ‘Cervical Cancer Mukt Bharat’.
