England's Best All-Time Cricketers

It would be fair to say that cricket is a sport that runs in the blood among sports fans in England. It’s not just a sport that pulls in the crowds either. It’s a sport where there is plenty of interest from a betting perspective too, with many people backing markets through bonuses – as seen with this Michigan Lottery promo code. Over the years, we’ve seen quite a range of incredible cricket players emerge from this nation, and in this quick post, we will be discussing some of the best to ever stick on an England cricket shirt.

The guys we will be discussing here have been responsible for sensational wicket-taking, outrageous accumulations of runs, and so much more! So, let’s get on with it.

The All-Time Greats

#1 Andrew Flintoff

Let’s kick things off with one of the modern-day players – good old ‘Freddy Flintoff’. As well as being a rather entertaining player to watch, he was undoubtedly one of the best we’ve seen in recent times. Flintoff was a truly amazing all-rounder for England, demonstrating phenomenal batting abilities while being a pretty prolific bowler too. He was influential in the outcomes of many games for England, especially when England took on Australia in many of The Ashes tests.

If you needed any confirmation as to his talents, he has hit the most sixes in Test cricket history for England, even more than the mighty Sir Ian Botham! To add to that, he has been ‘Man of The Ashes’ for England vs Australia back in the day, and he has captained England numerous times. But one thing you won’t find in the history records is his legendary sledging tactics, used with many international teams to turn the tide in England’s favour.

#2 Sir Alastair Cook

You’d need to set aside a fair amount of time to run through all of the accolades and records that this man has to his name. As you can also see, he holds the rather prestigious title of ‘Sir’ too, meaning that his achievements have been recognized by the Queen of England. Those kinds of things don’t happen by chance, and Cook’s contributions to English cricket during his time have been simply incredible. He is actually the most-capped man of all-time in English cricket, and this is combined with Cook being the youngest batsman ever to reach 12,000 test runs – not bad, right?

Cook played as a left-handed opening batsman, and at times, it just seemed like he could do anything he wanted with a bat in his hands. Whether it was flicking the ball across his pads for 4, or lacing his bat through the ball for sixes, his skills were the stuff of legend. It’s no wonder that Cook was officially listed as part of England’s all-time test XI.

#3 Sir Ian Botham

To finish, we have another ‘Sir’ in the form of Sir Ian Botham. The comparisons between Flintoff and Botham have caused quite a stir over the years, but whichever side of the fence you sit on concerning who is the best, you can’t deny that Botham was also sensational. Let’s not forget the 1981 Ashes either, where Botham pretty much single-handedly carved up the Australian team. During his career, he racked up over 5,000 runs and more than 350 wickets, showing that he was a true all-rounder.

It’s no surprise that Botham was inducted into the Cricket Hall of Fame for English cricket either. To solidify his place on our list, he’s one of just a handful of players to ever rack up over 100 runs and snatch 10 wickets in the very same game!
