Big plans for Noida Airport, will be developed as an international transit hub for Asia-Pacific countries

Good news for Noida, the Noida international airport will be made an international transit hub. The construction of the airport is almost complete and most likely to be open to the public by 2024 September. This will be the country’s largest airport.

As the authority is moving forward with its plan, the Noida International Airport Limited (NIAL) is now developing the airport into a transit hub for international airlines that works in Asia-Pacific countries. 

Most the international airlines halt their flights for hours before they take off for their next destination. Officials hope this will help to attract more air traffic if it is turned into a transit hub. As per the statement of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NIAL, Arun Vir Singh they have initiated the proposal to the ministry of civil aviation for permission. The international Noida airport is located near Jewar in the Noida district of Uttar Pradesh. 

The NIAL’s main focus is focusing to Asia- Pacific countries including Hong Kong, Japan, Australia and Singapore. The management at the airport has already started talks with domestic as well as international airlines and most of them have shown a keen interest in the desired proposal. Airlines including Air India, Vistara, Indigo and Air Asia have shown interest and NIAL has also asked the private concessionaire, Zurich AG, to initiate further talks with the senior airport officials and airlines as per the statement by the officials. 

While reviewing the work at the Noida International Airport, UP Chief Secretary Durga Shankar Mishra stated that the first phase of the airport will likely be open for the public by September 2023. Flights will start from the 1st phase. Flughafen Zürich AG, the operator of Zurich Airport in Switzerland had won the bid to construct the airport.
